Joist Improperly Supported

This joist was installed before the use of metal joist hangers and was not installed with a "yankee" which is normally a piece of 2" x 3" lumber that is nailed to the header and notched into the joist. As installed the nails are pulling out and present a structural failure. Repairs using a metal joist hanger are necessary.
